About the founder
Dr. Sarah Erickson, NMD
CURA began with a deeply personal understanding of hair loss. After experiencing severe alopecia areata herself and losing 95% of her hair at one point, Dr. Sarah Erickson knows what it’s like to search for answers and wish someone would look beyond the surface.
She created CURA to be the kind of practice she wished existed during her own journey—one where there’s time to hear the full story, look beyond the scalp, and create a clear, personalized path forward.
Her story
CURA started with her own alopecia journey.
Dr. Sarah was diagnosed with alopecia areata at 20 years old. What started as a few areas of hair loss progressed quickly, and within just a few months, she had lost 95% of her hair.
She did what most people do when they’re diagnosed: she went to dermatology appointments, tried the injections, medications, minoxidil, but nothing worked, and she found herself leaving every brief dermatology appointment feeling more confused and hopeless than when she entered. She knew there had to be a better option, so she started looking beyond conventional treatments and exploring a more comprehensive approach to her health.
She looked more closely at her nutrition, nutrient status, thyroid function, gut health, stress, sleep, and other areas that hadn’t previously been part of the conversation. She made significant changes to the way she ate and lived, addressed findings that came up through testing, and became deeply invested in understanding her body as a whole.
Within six months, her hair had completely grown back. And beyond the regrowth, she felt like the healthiest version of herself.
Her experience with alopecia shaped the kind of doctor she is today. She knows firsthand how frustrating it is to have limited time, unanswered questions, and few opportunities to explore the bigger picture—not only to support hair regrowth now, but to build a sustainable approach to managing alopecia long-term.
That experience became the foundation for CURA.
Dr. Sarah has built her practice around the approach she wished existed when she was navigating alopecia herself: individualized care, comprehensive testing, longer appointments, and the time to understand each person’s full history—not just what’s happening on their scalp.
The goal at CURA is simple: to give patients the time, information, and support they need to better understand their hair loss, build a personalized plan, and support their health for the long term.
“You deserve a doctor who asks why — and keeps asking until the answers connect.”
